Après-Ski Party

Après-Ski Party

Now, what have we chosen for a theme here? We caused a lot of confusion, and some people couldn't handle an apres-ski party. It also seems to be a common term here in Europe, especially in the Alps in Austria, Switzerland and of course here in Germany. Après come from the french and means "after".  Après-Ski is the term used to describe the amusements offered in winter sports resorts for tourists after skiing or snowboarding.

The guests celebrate in inns (ski huts), umbrella bars or discos, some of which are located directly on the ski slopes or high in the mountains, usually consume guests a lot of alcohol and are entertained by DJs with typical après-ski music. Après-ski music is characterized by catchy melodies, which should encourage you to sing along. German "Schlager" songs and dance are often used. In order to create an authentic setting, the hosts of après-ski venues also like to engage local bands. The music industry offers compilations of typical après-ski music in annual editions of various compilations.

Typical après-ski drinks are alcoholic and sweet (like Williams pear, vodka with fig and "Flügerl", a mixture of blackthorn and sour cherry flavoured vodka and energy drink), often hot (like Jagertee and mulled wine).

Many compare it to the Ballermann typical summer events on Majorca. The music is very similar and the singer moving between both activity. And there are also parallels to carnival, here in Germany "Fasching. Only people do not dress up for an Après-Ski Party.

So what do you wear for a party like this? Certainly no evening dress and no business clothes. It is vacation and winter. After a day on the ski slopes, people meet casually to celebrate, often in mountain shelters. There is singing and drinking at the top of your lungs. That means no short skirts.  But since Munich's trendy crowd also goes to the mountains to party, you often see dirndls in the German Alps like at the Oktoberfest.
