A Little Bit of Bavaria Under the Sunshine Sky

Peep: the beer is cold, the music is loud, and someone's already standing on the table.
There is something wonderfully dangerous about giving a perfectly innocent group of Second Life residents a Bavarian festival, a collection of steins and permission to dress up.
Tonight, Camp Sunshine becomes our own little corner of Bavaria.
Imagine arriving as the late afternoon light settles over the camp. Wooden tables are waiting, warm lights glow against the evening, and somewhere nearby the smell of grilled food and fresh pretzels seems almost real enough to taste. The first music is playing, friends are gathering, and the festival atmosphere starts building.
Then you notice the outfits.
The Dirndl is practically a character of its own. Traditionally, it consists of a bodice, blouse, full skirt and apron, but Second Life gives you considerably more creative freedom. Traditional Bavarian styling can be your starting point, not your finish line.
Go classic with a pretty dirndl, apron and braided hair. Add flowers, ribbons, boots or a little alpine jewelry. Or take the whole thing in a completely different direction. Elegant evening dirndl? Absolutely. Glamorous Oktoberfest queen? Why not. Playful beer-maid fantasy? Naturally. A Bavarian look so extravagant that everyone assumes you own the entire festival? Even better.
And gentlemen, don't think you're getting away with jeans.
Lederhosen are the obvious choice, but the details are where the fun begins. Checkered shirts, suspenders, rustic boots, hats, waistcoats and alpine accessories can transform a simple outfit into a complete character. Perhaps you're the local Bavarian who has been attending Oktoberfest since birth. Perhaps you're the tourist who bought the first lederhosen they found and is now pretending to understand everything.
Then there are the props.
A stein in your hand changes the entire mood. Add a pretzel. Find a wooden bench. Sit with friends. Take photographs. Recreate that classic festival moment where everyone looks suspiciously cheerful despite nobody remembering who ordered the next round.
And let's be honest: Oktoberfest is about atmosphere as much as clothing.
Use the setting. Wander around Camp Sunshine. Pose beside the tables. Gather your friends for a group photograph. Have your avatar arrive carrying a giant pretzel. Challenge someone to a completely imaginary stein-holding contest. Invent a Bavarian accent. Argue passionately about whose outfit is more authentic despite having absolutely no qualifications whatsoever.
The best part is that Second Life lets you turn a normal party into a little story.
Maybe you came to Camp Sunshine for one drink and accidentally found yourself in the middle of a Bavarian festival. Maybe you met an intriguing stranger at the beer table. Maybe you promised yourself you wouldn't dance on the furniture.
We all know how that ends.
And when the official Oktoberfest eventually winds down, the After-Party can loosen the dirndls, unbutton a few waistcoats and turn the festival atmosphere into something a little more grown-up and playful.
Until then, raise your stein, grab your friends and get ready for some very Sunshine-style Bavaria.
