Groundhogs Day

Groundhog Day is a popular tradition celebrated in Canada and the United States on 2th of February. It derives from the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog emerging from its burrow on this day sees its shadow due to clear weather, it will retreat to its den and winter will persist for six more weeks, and if it does not see its shadow because of cloudiness, spring will arrive early. 

While the tradition remains popular in modern times, studies have found no consistent correlation between a groundhog seeing its shadow or not and the subsequent arrival time of spring-like weather.

We will go to our Summer Camp and this day and celebrate that spring time not far away. Wear some spring clothes and join us to our Groundhogs Day.

Chinese New Year is the most important traditional Chinese holiday. Chinese New Year's Day, the date of which is calculated according to the traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar, falls on a new moon between 21th of January and 21th of February each year. The current Year of the Earth Pig began on 5th of February and will last until yesterday, while the Year of the Metal Rat will begin today.

And we also celebrated this festival again. Our formal (Chinese) event took place in our Sunshine Temple at 25th of January with our both DJs DJ Yuimetal and DJ Polpeta.

Opposite Day

Opposite Day

Yes, we know very well that National Opposite Day is not celebrated until 25th of January. But we moved it up a day and celebrated our Opposite Day today at the Sunshine Realm. Because on 25th there is also a new moon this year and so the Chinese New Year celebration takes place. And Opposite Day stands for always being a little different and doing the opposite. So today was our Opposite Day.

The National Opposite Day is a day where you can have fun all day long and say exactly the opposite of what you really mean. On this day children everywhere are happy. It's also a great day for adults to play along and break out of the winter blues. Maybe we should have breakfast for dinner!

Why we don't cancel our Chinese New Year Celebration

We will celebrate the Chinese New Year on January 25th. It will be the Year of the Rat, and unlike the reputation of the rat in most Western countries, it is the first in the circle of the Chinese Zodiac. It stands for presence of mind and versatility. Strong intuitions mixed with responsiveness. It should be a good year.

Country Nights in our Trails End Music Hall Club have a long tradition. This year will be no different. We started today with a special Country Night. It was our first "Country Line Dance Party". Our old big barn, the Trails End Music Hall Club was prepared for this special night. We bought a special Line Dance system and was curious about it. We invited our friends and guests to wear the cowboy boots and stetsons hat and come to the barn dance party.

Sport plays a role in many of our events. And we are in winter. That's why we wanted to try something new and organized a new event. Our first "World Ice Hockey Night" at Sunshine Realm. And how could it be different, we chose the big frozen pond for it. So we invited our guests and asked them to find something about ice hockey, or at least about winter sports. And to come to our winterland.

We wanted go back for this event in the landscape in front of our frozen pond in the winterland. We were here the first time to our "Snowball Fight". And yes, this is the place were wolves and bears live, and deers seeking food. It was time for a special survival training in a winter landscape. We invited our friends and guests t o join us with some warm winter clothes like boots, coats, hats, scarfs and mittens.

Our friend DJ Yezika comes from Guatemala. So as a DJ, she's our Latin queen. And we wanted to use this event to thank her And to go with her virtually to Guatemala City for one night and celebrate a hot merenque night together and listen to marimba and other Latin American music. We chose our Sunshiner's Pub for this and decorated it.

Today was the day. We celebrated the climax of our 1,000 Sunshine Rocker member week with a big formal "Pastel Formal" event. Of course we chose the Sunshine Temple again and decorated it according to the theme. And we were all looking forward to this evening and especially the events in our Sunshine Temple are always magical. It was also time for a night in formal attire and of course for shopping. I know, women and shopping. But honestly men, you like us in lovely gowns as well. That's fun, but pastel is usually the color for bridesmaids.  And they shouldn't steal the bride's thunder. So I was really happy to have found a very nice dress after some searching at Utopia.

It was time for a snowball fight today. We invited our friends and guests and asked them to put on their boots, hats, scarfs and mittens and come with us to the open landscape between the docks and the frozen pond in our Winterland. Many people don't see that we don't just build single venues, but mostly complete landscapes. So some were surprised that we have a smaller frozen pond near the docks. So we decided to use these areas as well, as we did in summer with our Camp Sunshine.

Unfortunately we have very sad news today. Valantine hasn't login in SL for more than a month and none of us know what happened. We are sad and helpless. We continued to organize the events on Sundays for more as a month and Misty had paid the rent for this time.

Fitness Day

Fitness Day

We all need some fitness training after the Christmas holidays to get our bodies back in shape. That was the idea for today's topic and we met in our Sunshine Gym. Our fitness coach tonight was DJ Yezika who together with Ruby and Vanny Nightwish provided the appropriate entertainment. We started at 5pm, our friends and guests were invited to join us with workout clothes and jogging suits. This event was the assignment of our 1,000- member-week, so we doubled the jackpot in the contest already at the beginning. Since last week we are about this border in our Sunshine Rocker group.

We met on the frozen pond in our winterland for a (semi formal) winter event. So our guests should really put on warm clothes. In any case wear a coat and gloves, the theme of our event tonight. And maybe boots and also a scarf and hat extra. We wanted to start the year 2020 with a very special event, after our first event was a Hangover Breakfast yesterday. But already yesterday was suddenly different as planned, because the cosy and manageable Hangover Breakfast in our Sunshiner's Pub became the most visited event we had here at the Sunshine Realm so far. We had more than 100 visitors that evening. And also our number of groups clearly exceeded the 1,000 mark, so that we now hope to keep more than 1,000 members permanently. Therefore we will have a formal ball in our Sunshine Temple next Saturday.

The year is over and New Year's Eve is over. Some have a heavy head. That's why we opened our year with a hangover breakfast. We invited our guests and friends to come as they are, perhaps still in the evening dress of New Year's Eve, pajamas, or a comfortable house suit. We wanted starting the New Year with a party in the Sunshiner's Pub.

A view back to 2019  (will be continued)

It is really difficult to put such a year into a blog post. It was a breathtaking year with so many different highlights to share with our friends and many guests, and with so many unforgettable experiences. We are really thankful to run this place and share this with our friends. So I would like to try it anyway. Of course I can't talk about every experience and can't mention every event. What makes the Sunshine Realm so special? Why do we have so many regular visitors, many of whom are our friends, and have been able to organize so many different events. The secret is the Sunshine Family. They support us and keep on encouraging us. And so we can now look back today on the 2nd successful year in a row.

Now the last month of this year is also over and it is already time to look back. Actually, I should write a review of the year right now, but that will have to wait a little bit. Now first of all the monthly review. Of course December is the Advent season and then Christmas and New Year's Eve. So also at the Sunshine Realm. But also Chanukah belongs to December.
