Tanning at Sunshine Realm

Most of us all love the sun and tanned skin. Many think also that this shows the "healthy". Often is the opposite the case. Some of us use a darker skin in SecondLife in summer or tanning lines. And there are many wonderful beaches in SecondLife. Each year on the Friday before Memorial Day, it is National Don’t Fry Day.  The goal of National Don’t Fry Day is to raise awareness of all the risks of overexposure to the sun. It is important for everyone to remember to use sun protection and sun safety practices. Maybe to wear a hat to be safe. And we want remember this in SecondLife too. If you go into the Sun, be safe!

This year is the Don't Fry Day the 5/24. Marked annually on May 24, National Scavenger Hunt Day is set aside as a day to enjoy the good ol’ fashioned fun of a scavenger hunt. We wanted try to organize a scavenger hunt, with interesting information about sun protection and interesting facts about our Sunshine Realm. But often the reality, and special the real life make other plans. This week was very busy for Misty and me in rl, so we cutted the hunt for this evening.

We met at 4pm at the Caribbean Beach here on the Sunshine Realm. Already from my friends list I could see that it would be a rather quiet evening. Many friends were offline that day. The long weekend in the USA cast its shadows ahead. But this should not break our good mood, and since it was about sunbathing and the risks, the Windlight was set to Midday in the Sunshine Realm today. And our moods were like sunshine. And our thoughts were with our friends too, which still need to work.

But then it slowly became fuller and some followed our invitation later. After 1.5 hours there were 40 people in the Sim. DJ Valantine played a good set for a sunny day on the beach and we danced together. Some had a sun hat, other applied tanning lines, other again came with sun oil. All our guests followed the theme in the one or other way. Since many people listened to the music or wrote cheeky IMs to each other, the local chat was a bit calmer today. Nevertheless we could laugh a few times. 

Even though the number of group members has decreased a bit before the weekend, that happens often during the week, and many friends could not be there, it was a nice evening. Especially in summer in the northern hemisphere it gets emptier in SecondLife. But in SecondLife you always meet new friends, new guests come and new people join our group. That makes this virtual world so unique. And sometimes it is almost a neighbour, but often someone from the other end of the world. And thus SecondLife makes us perhaps somewhat more openly, more tolerantly and also happier.

 And of course we had another contest. I already wrote that we had 40 guests. A lot of people signed up for the contest. Fridays and SecondLife always seem to be more complicated. The board had a lot of delays, but contrary to expectations the voting went well and smoothly. After only 15 minutes everyone had voted, and we had a total of 29 votes cast. Also the payout went very well, and we could look forward to the upcoming events together and did after-party.
